Hey all you old pharts, and maybe some a bit younger, can you hear me now?

I have had tinnitus for years, and the older I got the harder it got for me to hear in general. The wife got tired of me asking WHAT? and I got frustrated saying that same word over and over.

Last year for reasons beyond my control I surpassed my deductible on the health insurance, found out that my insurance will help with the cost of hearing aids, so I dug into finding some. Multiple appointments, multiple hearing tests, and multiple trials I ended up with a new pair of ears.

I wore them when it was reasonable, IE I wasn't going to be around loud noises, which in this job can be hard to find. Fast forward months and I was so frustrated from them, everything else was louder but I still could not hear people talking, TV/radio or anything I felt was important to hear.

I called and asked about it, was told it takes time to get use to them and I just need to wear them all the time and not turn them down. I tried that but could not stand all the noise so I had to turn them down. Everything was louder but still couldn't hear what I needed to hear.

I called them back, explained the problem in a bit more detail as I had more experience, and we set an appointment for another sitting.

This time their check found that something was backwards with the hearing aids and sent them in. When I got them back they seemed to be better so I tried them but it was just like everything was just louder, and I had like a speaker buzz in my ears if they were set at 0 in a -5/+5 range.

Bottom line is I still can't hear any better than before, I generally run the aids at -3 or-2 but usually -3, and I still get frustrated that I can hear the coffee trickle into my cup but can't understand what people are saying to me.

Anyone else have this issue, or am I the only one? From others I have talked to outside this industry it sounds like a general problem. Since they have opened them up to OTC sales are there just going to be more people walking around with more noise in their ears that still can't hear.

I won't hear your responses the background noise will drown them out, but I can read them till my eyes go.
