Hi everyone, I'm trying to research refrigerants and this seemed like the place to ask. I'm no expert but trying to better understand how this works...
1) Where do installers/dealers source refrigerant? Do the OEMs sell it for their equipment?
2) As I understand it, there is still a market for R22 and it's expected that the HFC refrigerants will still be needed for the next ~20 years. What is driving this demand/usage? Is it new machines being put in that use it (seems unlikely) or do existing machines require refrigerant for various reasons?
3) Related to (2), what are the reasons existing machines would need refrigerant? Leaks? If new machines don't use R22, why is any being bought/used?
4) Is there any difference / preference between reclaimed refrigerant and newly produced refrigerant? Is one cheaper?
5) Are the HFCs now much more expensive than they were a year or 2 ago, before the new legislation limited new production?
Thanks so much!
